Shrink a PDF by compressing eligible pictures. Choose a preset or adjust settings, check the estimate before upload and savings afterward.
Your file is uploaded over a secure connection and processed on our server. The original is deleted right after processing, the result after 1 hour (24 hours in your account).
Select one or more PDFs. Check the estimated size range below the settings before upload, it is based on pictures and may differ from the result. Protected PDFs have no estimate.
Choose Light, Recommended (default), Strong, or Custom. Light reduces pictures above 200 ppi to 200 ppi at quality 85, Recommended uses 144 ppi/75, Strong uses 72 ppi/50. Custom sets resolution from 36–300 ppi and JPEG quality from 10%–95%. Pictures below the chosen resolution are not enlarged.
Optionally enable grayscale conversion or metadata removal (title, author, dates, and program names). Grayscale leaves text and vector colors unchanged, metadata remains if removal is off.
For a protected PDF, enter its password when prompted. Select “Compress PDF,” review before-and-after sizes and savings, then download files individually or multiple PDFs in a ZIP.
Photo collections and image-based scans may shrink more than PDFs with few pictures. JPEG compression can reduce photo quality. Flat graphics, screenshots, and transparent images stay lossless, text, links, bookmarks, and transparency are kept.
Text-heavy PDFs may shrink only a few percent because fonts account for much of their size. If no pictures can be compressed, or the file cannot be made smaller, the original is returned unchanged. There is no target-size control or email preset.
Guests can process 10 PDFs at once (50 MB and 200 pages per file, 2 simultaneous jobs). Registered users can process 50 (100 MB and 500 pages per file, 4 simultaneous jobs). The tool is free, needs no registration, and adds no watermark.
Files are uploaded over HTTPS and processed on the server. The original is deleted after processing, results are kept for 1 hour for guests and 24 hours for registered users. Protected or restricted PDFs retain their password and restrictions.
FAQ
Can I compress a PDF to an exact size, such as 2 MB?
No. There is no target-size control, so you cannot specify an exact output size or guaranteed percentage reduction. The result depends in part on how many pictures can be compressed and their resolution.
Is there a setting for compressing a PDF for email?
There is no email-specific preset. Choose a compression level or use Custom to adjust picture resolution and JPEG quality, then check whether the resulting file meets your sharing needs.
Can I compress a Word document or another file type?
No. This tool accepts PDFs only. To compress a Word document, save or export it as a PDF first, then select that PDF.
Can I remove a PDF password while compressing it?
No. You can enter the password to process a protected PDF, but the compressed result keeps the same password and restrictions. The password is used only for that job and is not stored.
