Your file is uploaded over a secure connection and processed on our server. The original is deleted right after processing, the result after 1 hour (24 hours in your account).
Upload one PDF. The converter creates a DOCX file, not the older DOC format.
Choose “Editable” for editable paragraphs, headings, lists, tables and pictures. Choose “Text only” for paragraphs and headings without tables, pictures or page layout.
For scanned pages, select “Recognize text (OCR)” or “Keep as images.” With OCR, select up to three document languages from those used in the scan. Text in a language you did not select comes out as gibberish.
Choose “All pages” or “Select pages,” then enter page numbers or ranges separated by commas, such as 1-3, 5, 8-. If the PDF is password-protected, enter its password when prompted. Select “Convert to Word” and download the DOCX.
The result is an editable flow rather than an exact replica. Original fonts aren't retained, columns are placed in reading order, and overlapping objects or text wrapping may differ. Tables spanning multiple pages won't remain one continuous table, and tables without lines may contain errors.
OCR supports English, Español, Português, Italiano, Français, Deutsch, Polski, Русский, Türkçe, Čeština and Nederlands. Guests can convert PDFs up to 50 MB and 200 pages, with OCR on up to 20 scanned pages. Registered users can convert files up to 100 MB and 500 pages, with OCR on up to 100 scanned pages. These are current site limits and may change.
The service is free, requires no registration and adds no watermark. Conversion is processed on the server over a secure connection. The uploaded PDF is deleted right after conversion. The DOCX is deleted after 1 hour for guests or 24 hours for registered users. The password is used only for conversion and is not stored. Each job converts one PDF.
FAQ
Is the result a .doc or .docx file?
The converter creates a file named with the .docx extension. It does not create the older .doc format, so choose DOCX when saving or opening the result in a word processor.
Does the page limit apply to the whole PDF or just the pages I select?
The page-count check can apply to the whole PDF or the selected pages. The browser checks page count, ranges and OCR limits before the file is uploaded.
What can I try if OCR recognizes very few words?
Check that you selected every language used on the scanned pages. If the languages are correct, the scan may be too blurry for reliable recognition.
Are form fields, comments and bookmarks transferred to Word?
No. Interactive form fields, PDF comments and bookmarks are not converted into corresponding Word features. Footnotes also do not become Word footnotes, and formulas are output as text rather than Word equations.
